How to Find Sponsors for Your Parties

Corporate sponsorship for your events can save you tons of money, which will reduce your expenses and increase your personal income. Having a large company pay for most of your party expenses will allow you to throw larger and more extravagant events. Larger events means larger profits. But there are certain steps you must take in order to have even the slightest chance of landing a corporate sponsor for your party.

The first step is finding the right sponsor. If you are still new to party promoting (2 years or less), you should be looking at local sponsors only. Big national corporate sponsors are best left to promoters who have had more experience, and already know their way around sponsorship proposals. But if you want to try to solicit the big players, like major liquor companies, these same rules apply to them as well. But don’t worry; there are plenty of local businesses that may be willing to sponsor your events. Some local businesses I’ve used in the past include:

- Record Labels

- Art Galleries

- Car Dealerships

- Radio Stations

- Sports Clubs

- Local Festivals

- Restaurants

- Magazines

These local businesses will throw money at you if they think it will be good advertising for their brand. When you first start, the best time to plan a party that you want sponsored is around holidays or big local events. Most companies don’t want to sponsor any old party, there has to be something special about the event. Like a New Years or Halloween party, a local film festival, school graduation, or some cultural event. It is much easier to land sponsors for these kinds of unique and popular parties. They seem much safer from a sponsor's point of view, because people always go out and spend money on these special occasions.

When trying to reach potential sponsors about a party, you have to plan a few months in advance. Two or 3 months in advance at least. So if you want to get a company to sponsor your New Years party, make sure to contact them about it in September or October at the latest. Earlier is always better. Corporate paperwork moves slowly, and there is a lot of bureaucratic BS that has to be taken care of. So it will take a few months for you to get an answer back.

When I threw my annual New Years event this past winter, I was able to secure $10,000 from local sponsors alone! This amount covered much of my advertising budget, which meant I was able to pocket more money for myself at the end of the night. Keep in mind that my parties are very big, you don't need a $10,000 advertising budget to start out as a promoter. I have thrown VERY profitable club events for only a couple hundred dollars, which I'll teach you about later in the guide.

Make sure that you don’t absolutely NEED the company’s sponsorship money to throw the event. It should just be an extra bonus if you get it. If you don’t have any past experience with sponsored events that you can show a company, you may have to make many proposals to many different companies before you find one willing to work with you. But the hard work will pay off eventually, because as you work with more and more sponsors, you’ll have a history that you can show off to future sponsors. They will take you more seriously when you can show them a record of your success. Finding sponsors will become easier and easier the more you do it.

Next it’s time for writing the proposal. Large companies aren’t going to just give you a bunch of money and say “have fun”. They want to see some kind of return on their investment. This means you have to show them what they will get from working with you. Sponsors will want to know some hard facts & figures about your party, like what demographic you cater to, how much you plan to spend on advertising, where & how you will advertise, how many people you expect, your history as a party promoter, what kind of brand exposure they will receive, etc. This means you need to put together a professional sponsorship proposal.

Here is the proper way to create a formal sponsorship proposal that will guarantee financial success:
